Over the years I have purchased dozens of humming bird feeders and have found only two that I really like. When buying the feeders I didn’t think about the form or shape of the feeder only how pretty it was and the cost.
This time around I am purchasing for my mother that had owned one previously and stated that it was difficult to clean so she did not fill it up after the first attempts of attracting hummingbirds, even though she did enjoy watching the hummingbirds. So I was in search of a feeder that was easy to clean and fairly inexpensive.
There are a variety of hummingbird feeders available but what I enjoy most about my two favorite feeders is:
- Comes apart easily and has a wide opening in the part that holds the liquid mix for ease of cleaning
- Several feeder ports, at least 4 to 5
- Hangs easily and looks good
- Perch for landing (these birds fly so quickly I think they need a break every now and then)
The feeder that I find works best usually has a saucer-type base. I have found the type with the bottle necks are hard to get a brush inside that will twist around and get the mold out of the interior. I have three like that and am presently using one but it is soon to retire because I cannot clean it efficiently.
Here is a picture of the hummingbird feeder on my office window:

You can see in the picture the base is a saucer shape with six different ports and the opening that holds the liquid is very wide. Not only does it screw apart at the opening but the saucer comes apart very easily also. I bought this feeder late last year and I believe it is the best one I own. My other feeder is a saucer type and it is easy to clean also.
The one I purchased my mother is alot like the one above and it is a window humming bird feeder. I believe she will actually use it since it is so easy to clean and fill. And especially since I gave her the premixed hummingbird nectar too! I am hoping she will get hours of enjoyment watching and feeding hummingbirds like I do.

How often do they visit the feeder? Hummingbirds are like magic! I just happened to buy a couple of packets of seeds today. Little N. insisted that I buy some pretty flowers. All three of them say that they attract hummingbirds and bees! How cool is that?! :}

The hummingbirds visit my feeder numerous times during the day. I have two located in the front and one on the back porch and I see all the feeders being visited often. I just love watching these little birds.

I hang 6 feeders out as far apart as I can place them since hummers are very territorial and a male will guard feeders in his territory. When I place feeders out of sight from each other the dominating male won’t guard those that he can’t see. Therefore, I end up with quite a few hummers.

Jim, Maybe that is what I need to do. Right now I have two on my front porch but in viewing distance from each other.
