To refresh your memory of my flock. Here is the Rooster![]()
Is he not beautiful?!!
The next is Lacy, a silver-laced wyandotte![]()
She is beautiful also. She is about a year old now.
Next is Pepper, a Barred Rock hen. She is a good bird. She is getting older now and lays about every other day. She was given to us a couple of years ago so I have no idea how old she is.
This is Ugly, an Aracauna hen. We call her that because when we first got her she had no tail feathers and was just plain ugly! We have had her over two years now and have no idea how old she is. She lays green eggs. They are big also. She is getting older now and lays about every other day.
Most people we are around have never heard of a green egg laying chicken. I hadn’t either until I got her. I gave some to a friend around Easter and told them they didn’t even have to dye their eggs for Easter!
Our next little hen is not very friendly. Her name is Henny Penny. She is a sister to the rooster. Her mother was a black sex-link hen. The father was a light brahma. This picture is from last year. She hatched some eggs last year and we gave those to my father-in-law as a gift. He was so excited. Two roosters and six hens.
My next hen is Rhoda. She is a Rhode Island Red and is currently sitting on a nest of eggs. Anyday now they will be hatching. She has a great disposition also. She is over a year old now also. We got her last year at the same time we got Lacy.
Now that we have gotten through my normal flock I want to introduce you to my latest acquisition. Both of these birds are over a year old and are of the Americana breed. They both lay green eggs. That is when they find the nest. Right now they are so scared of the rooster that all they do is stay on top of the nesting box trying to get away from him. I haven’t named them yet so if you can think of some great names, share it in the comments. Here they are:
Both of these hens have the same traits as Ugly; long neck, tufts of hair at the ears, and a short stubby comb. The lady I purchased these from told me the name of the type of comb but I have forgotten for now.
Well that’s enough for today. I have re-introduced you to some of my flock and introductions to the new. I am working on a project and am almost finished. Stay tuned so you don’t miss “An Egg Laying Experience” starring Lacy, the silver-laced Wyandotte.

Tawni, Ugly was part Americauna (a green//blue egg laying chicken) but when they are a mixed breed like she was a lot of people call them “Eastereggers”.
