Put the egg in a glass of water.
If the egg floats it is bad. Toss immediately.
If the egg sinks and lays flat it is fresh. The yolks do not have to be thoroughly cooked.
If it stands on its end it is not as fresh but should be edible. The egg should be thoroughly cooked.
WARNING: Be careful not to crack the bad egg. It is an unforgettable smell you wish you had never been around.

You can also check the freshness of a fresh egg by the way the shell peels. Really fresh eggs are harder to peel.
