Sorry it took me longer than expected to get this next post out. Here are some additional ideas for feeding your chickens and/or backyard birds. These homemade chicken feeders I am sharing today are what I use. I can’t take credit for the idea. My husband thought of it.

pvc chicken feeders

These are both made of PVC with an area cut out so the chicken can eat, but cannot scratch out the food. He made it in two different sizes for me because the smaller one is to feed the biddies that are kept in a cage. The pipe is bolted to a piece of wood and then additional wood pieces for the end caps.

These have worked great for us. Made from scraps sitting around. They can be made to any size and length you want.

homemade platform birdfeeder

This homemade bird feeder is a platform feeder made by my husband. He used an old piece of wood and utilize some plastic edging to keep the seed from easily being pushed off.

I have had it for several years. I have no idea where the perch originally came from but I’m sure it was some kind of metal ornamental at one time. He attached the wood tray from underneath to a metal rod and it is easily pushed in the ground and has held up well. My birds just love it and so do I!

I haven’t heard from any of my readers yet on any of their feeders. If you want to share your creative ways of feeding your flock, please email me by clicking here.

I really enjoyed your nifty site. I was wondering how wide the cut out section in the PVC pipe feeder is as I’m wanting to try to make a few myself. Thanks and you really have a nice site.

Randy, Thanks for your kind comments and visiting the site. I asked my husband and he said the larger feeder is a 3″PVC pipe and the cutout is about 2″ wide. Just make sure the birds cannot get their feet in it to scratch out food.

As you can tell by the picture he started smaller but had to cut the whole a little bigger. It’s all trial and error. Whatever works for you. Come back and visit again soon!
